Yay!  I got a shout out from Randy of www.somethingpositive.net fame in his latest video blog.  He was talking about Bulletin Board Systems (the Internet before the Internet for those of you under 30) which is actually how we met back in the day.

I’ve been making virtual friends for so long that it never even crossed my mind that it might be weird to the less technologically savvy to have “friends” you’ve never actually met before.  Randy was (and still is) one of my best friends back then, even when we hadn’t met in person yet.  We eventually met and all that good stuff but I was a mess then.  I’d get anxiety attacks just leaving the house.  So, I didn’t see many of my friends for a long time.  But that’s an entirely different story.

I do still miss a lot about the old BBSes.  Even though it was virtual, you still knew that the people you were talking to were likely right down the road instead of anywhere in the world like today.  On the other hand, yay Internet!  Woot!

Deranged #9, by Doc!  ”NerdCon 2009” Part 1
Until there was a Facebook group dedicated to blaming me for things, my biggest claim to fame was being a friend of Something Positive’s R. K. Milholland.  The character of Don has even appeared in a few of SP’s strips too.  So that was like a bonus.  Most of Randy’s fans are great and he has this huge cult following.  A well-deserved cult following, mind you.  But whenever I did conventions, this happened a lot.  The only con I did where this didn’t happen at least once was when I was sitting right next to him.  So if they had a question about him, I could just direct them one table over.
